Pipers from El Paso
A long time ago when Clandestine played the El Paso highland games I made the acquaintance of a high school bagpipe band that had been in existence since the ’50’s. Here in Midland/Odessa I met up with them again at the games. The Bel Air HS pipe band has had third generation Scottish-Americans playing the bagpipes like their grandparents did and they have a talented instructor, Marla Manning (wearing the hunting Hamilton tartan below). The students are wearing the modern Hamilton tartan and I mentioned to them that I wore the ancient Hamilton when I was in high school. They all have good fingers and I hope they keep playing when they graduate. Maybe we’ll all play together next year!
