Day 4 – Bouzouki and singing
Every time I hear about a friend of mine recording a CD or publishing a huge piece of work I offer this advice: If you find yourself awake in the middle of the night thinking “this was a huge mistake” or “I’m hurting the world with my bad art/music/work and I should just quit”, I tell them that is a completely normal part of the process and the answer is to just keep going and keep singing with the voice you have, so to speak.
Yesterday was Frances’ day to get the rest of her parts done and she nailed them all, no problem. She is so brilliant at coming up with new beautiful chords and interesting turns of phrase. I could tell she and Rich (engineer/guitarist and our hero) were working beautifully together and enjoying each other musical sense.
Yesterday we also sang some parts for the album. Yes, we’re singing on this one. That’s big for both Frances and I since neither of us has ever sang lead on a song on a CD before. At the end of the day Rich put down his first audible part and we all broke up into spontaneous laughter and applause because what he added to the song was so excellent.
