Day 6…. the fun stuff begins
Today I found out we’ve been playing most of our stuff into an $8000 microphone from the 60’s. Our vocals, my flute, some of the strings, and funny enough, the bagpipe drones are going into a tube microphone called a Neumann M267. It looks vintage too and has a giant stand that takes up a significant part of the room.
The first part of all this recording was a lot of basics: drums, bouzouki, pipes, and flute tracks played just the way we’ve been practicing.
Now we’re getting into some over-layering which means a lot of playing with different instruments on a song. Over the course of a few hours we took a song we’ve been performing for the better part of a year and added a flute part, then another flute part on a different flute, then I was insistent about a bagpipe part, then we came up with a different bagpipe part that actually worked on top of the 2 flutes, 2 vocals, and bagpipe, then Frances has had this trumpet she’s been learning and of course it had to have a harmony part…. so on top of two bouzoukis, I forgot about the banjo part Rich put down….
Ok so we have bouzouki, harmony bouzouki, 2 vocals, 2 bagpipe parts, 2 trumpet parts, a banjo and everybody thought we were done. That’s when I pulled out the bombarde and said, “humor me”.
So this song (Wave the Ocean) is so full of stuff it’s about to tip over but it all works!!!!
I put this here because I find it hilarious:

Looking forward to that piece! I love the ocean being a Fl girl. I listen to the crashing waves on my sound machine app each night.
This is making drool. I can’t wait to hear all the parts of Wave the Ocean!
