Here’s the first track of the Revel Grove album! It’s named for the Maryland Renaissance Festival where Frances, Mike Huebner(drums), and I are playing the for the next four weekends. When you enter the gates you’re in Revel Grove. It’s not a theme park. It’s a village populated by artists and artisans, the place for which this album was named. We teach dances at our last set of the day and play the best tunes we can think of for the rest of the time.
Bands like us wouldn’t exist without patronage. Just like it was hundreds of years ago, we travel from place to place and put our music together for the people who hire us. Good gigs and patron fans make it possible for this music to exist in the world for the folks who end up hearing it for free. Everywhere we go we influence other musicians and even newcomers to the music world.
Over the 9 week run of Revel Grove I’m teaching pipes to kids who work at the faire who come from families much too poor to afford lessons. Every player in this band end up influencing other musicians and audience members who play music, especially young people who are forming their mental map of how the world is. Your support has put us here, where we are doing good work!
You’ll receive at least one copy of this album soon but here’s the first track:
Flora Set: Bronni’s Blue Brozzi (M.Saul) / Unknown Reel (trad)
